ANSF announces recruitment for a position of the Laboratory Manager (Lab Manager) for the Scientific Center for Innovative Research (SCIR). The deadline for submission of the resumes is November 20, 2009.
About SCIR: The SCIR laboratory will support new collaborations on innovative research in renewable energy, agriculture, biotechnology, petroleum engineering, and environmental science. The center will also increase funding for research in Azerbaijan by providing high-tech science solutions to local and international businesses and organizations.
The Lab Manager (LM) plans, manages, and coordinates projects and activities carried out in support of the development of SCIR. The LM will be assigned discrete projects to plan, coordinate and/or monitor. These include the planning and organizing of scientific conferences, trainings, exchanges and scientific research grant competitions. The LM will be responsible for ensuring that goals and objectives are accomplished within prescribed time frames and funding parameters.
Responsibilities:
• Lab Manager will report to ANSF Director
• Facilitate procurement of scientific equipment, including working with the state customs to clear equipment ;
• Assess needs of scientists and engineers to initiate sustainable business activity through licensing, contracts, partnerships, and startups;
• Develop a network of key local and international partners to assist with Center’s mission
• Organize business trainings events for local scientists and engineers
• Organize and facilitate external and internal meetings with representatives from local/foreign businesses, NGOs and governmental agencies to discuss potential new work for the Center
• Plans, coordinates, and monitors Center’s activities
• Establishes project work plans; Coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within budget;
• Prepare and submit quarterly and annual reports on center’s activities to ANSF Director
• Prepare project reports for management, client, or others;
• Provide administrative and logistical support including developing contractual arrangements to support projects and activities, planning of seminars, training sessions, and itineraries for associated travel;
• Work on other project related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Ph.D. degree or equivalent is desired;
• Strong English language skills are required; Azeri language is a must;
• Have in-depth knowledge of the S&T sector of Azerbaijan;
• Three to four years work experience with project management; including experience with managing events;
• Experience working with multinational companies, Academy institutes, NGOs and the Government agencies;
• Exposure to international peer-reviewed grant programs (Preference will be given to applicants who actually applied for international funding)
• Fundraising and strong public speaking skills is a big plus
• Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented;
• Ability to communicate and interact effectively; superior verbal and written communications skills;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and ability to work with and maintain more advanced databases;
• International work experience preferred
• Strong English language skills are required
